At New Siblands School the Religious Education Curriculum aims to enable pupils to understand and experience practices of religions and how they are represented by the many faiths in this multi-denominational world. Christian faith is at the core of the Curriculum. This permeates through all curricula and is evident every day. Ranging from Christian Assemblies weekly deliviered by Thornbury Churches together, school Festival assemblies, individual class 'candle time' and the major Christian Festivals during the year.
We used role play to explore the baptism ceremony.

Through a Scheme of Work pupils are taught skills necessary to reflect and respond to the spiritual dimension of experience and to develop knowledge and understanding of religion.
In the Primary Department, pupils are taught to respond, sometimes displaying awe and wonder, developing an understanding of their feelings, developing a sense of community and begin to question.
We used a candle and some water in the baptism ceremony.

The programme of study is in the main Christian, but all pupils learn about other principle faiths: Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam and Sikhism.
The Secondary Department and Post 16 begin to explore similarities and differences between religions.
Teaching is differentiated to accommodate all cognitive levels.
The implicit strand of Religious Education is an integral component of daily life and is very much a part of our general school ethos.
Secondary 1 worked on 'Journeys and Pilgrimages' learning about Abraham's journey to the Promised Land.

Here is some more work on Journeys and Pilgrimages! We also looked at the poem 'Footprints' and walked the journey of Life.
