Post 16 Transition
This is a period of change and adjustment for all students as they are entering the adult world. The curriculum hopes to reflect this and prepare them socially, emotionally, intellectually and vocationally for some of the challenges they may face. A well planned and resourced curriculum is provided to take their learning forward and to provide opportunities for all students to succeed in an atmosphere of care and being valued.
The focus is on the individual needs and these will be reflected in for example Accreditation, levels of involvement in the work Experience, as well as their Individual Curriculum Plan (plus and Individual Education Plan, where appropriate) with achievable, challenging targets using the available pivats data from their previous class. These targets will be evaluated every six months and discussed with parents at Parents Evenings (2 per year) as well as at Annual Review.
In the Post 16 class learning takes place within the following areas:
- Personal Social and Emotional
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Mathematical
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Creative
- Physical
We will be delivering the following subject areas which relate directly to the national curriculum planned for this age group;
- ICT
- Careers Education Guidance
- Active Involvement in the Community
- Relationship Education
- Enterprise Education
- Work related learning
- World religions in the Bristol area
- Entitlement; a choice of various subjects which are rotated on a two yearly basis
- Using community facilities to access sport/physical activity
An adapted version of the Literacy/Numeracy hour will also take place.
As your child has progressed through the Key Stages s/he will have followed the appropriate curriculum for Key Stages 1,2,3,4 which will be continued through Key Stage 5 and will be used to provide appropriate Key Stage entitlement but this will be modified in terms of level, pace and approach. As at Key Stage 4, students will continue their programme of transition. This will involve the pupils, parents, staff and the Connexions Service (see links). Careers, Education and Guidance meetings will be held to formulate plans and to make a decision about your young person's future. Possible college placements, work opportunities, residential placements etc will be considered and support will be given to pupils and parents at this very crucial transition period.
