Personal, Social and Health Education

School Council

Each class sends an elected representative to the School Council once a term.  Issues for discussion have included lunchtime clubs, the new build at Gillingstool and how to encourage other pupils to eat and drink more healthily.  A Healthy School actively encourages the students to be part of the decision-making process and to suggest ideas for the Senior Management Team and Governors to consider. The members elected their own Chairperson and minutes are taken and distributed.  Future issues to be discussed include bullying.

Relationship Education

Whole staff meetings have begun in the often tricky area of sex and relationships education.  As a school we think it is really important to deliver this aspect of curriculum with sensitivity and honesty as our students become young adults. In the near future we hope to hold some parent workshops to involve the whole school community in the development of a comprehensive scheme of work.

Emotional Health and Wellbeing

Lunchtime Clubs

These are organized for the students to attend during their daily lunch break.  They include disco club, Walk on Wednesday and Makaton club.  Makaton Club is run by Jacquie our Speech and Language Therapist. All the clubs promote health and fitness with an emphasis on physical activities and fun.

Healthy Eating

Our new school cook, Carole, provides a range of healthy school dinners and has even brought some tasty fruit snacks to School Council for the members to try.

Many of the children eat 'fruit cups' every day with their mid-morning or afternoon drink.  We can choose from apples, pears and bananas, but sometimes there are strawberries and tomatoes!

Every class has a water cooler and a new sports bottle for each child.  The children are encouraged to keep themselves hydrated throughout the day and can drink whenever they need to.

Several of our themed assemblies have been about healthy lifestyles, including fruit, vegetables, drinking more water, exercise and sleep.  These are like a whole school lessons and there are always fun things to do like sharing out plates of fruit or snuggling up in a big bed.

Physical Activity

Sport continues to be a popular part of the curriculum.

For the first time the youngest students at New Siblands have been included in the swimming lessons at Bradley Stoke Pool.

Other students have been horse riding.

Currently a football coach is coming to school every week to work with some of the secondary students.

Primary department took a group of students to a Boccia and New Age Curling Tournament at Castle School. One of our targets for the future is to take part in even more inter-school tournaments.
