History
At New Siblands the study of History helps pupils develop
curiosity in, and an understanding of the past in order to help them make sense
of the world in which they live. Pupils learn about the recent past and the
more distant past. They learn about people from history both famous and
ordinary. In doing so pupils are introduced to notions of change and
development in their own lives, enriching other areas of the curriculum and
enhancing their sense of identity.
Crucial to the study of History is the use of evidence. Pupils need to
appreciate that knowledge and understanding of the past is based upon the
interpretation of a wide variety of different types of evidence. Therefore at
New Siblands we use a large range of artefacts and expose children to information
from a range of different sources.
We teach our History units in a cross curricular way making
it more meaningful and accessible for our pupils.
