Geography
At New Siblands the Geography Curriculum, which incorporates
the National Curriculum, aims to stimulate pupils' interest in their
surroundings and in a variety of physical and human conditions on the Earth's
surface. It also aims to help pupils to develop an informed concern about the
environment and enhance their sense of responsibility for the care of the Earth
and its people.
The study of Geography helps pupils develop curiosity in, and an understanding of themselves, other people and places, and the relationship between them. Pupils are encouraged to engage in a range of geographical skills which will help them to develop their knowledge of both the local and global environment:

Foundation 2 took Barnaby Bear to The Arctic. They made passports to take with them on the aeroplane. They had to wrap up really warm!
Through the teaching of Geography pupils will be helped:
1. To develop competence to communicate in a variety of ways including
pictures, drawings, simple diagrams and maps
2. To develop interest and awareness of their surroundings
3. To identify and explore features in the local environment
4. To recognise and investigate changes taking place in the local area
5. To distinguish between the varying ways land and buildings are used.
6. To understand the different contributions that
individuals and services give to the local community.
7. To develop an awareness of seasonal change of weather and its effects
8. To develop an awareness of people and places beyond their immediate
environment or culture.
9. To observe accurately and develop the individual's skills of enquiry.
10. To develop and extend the individual's geographical vocabulary.
