Admissions
The school is designated as a school for severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties. It provides education for pupils aged from two to nineteen, mainly from within South Gloucestershire (although pupils from other authorities may be admitted in particular circumstances.
The Local Education Authority requires a Statement of Special Educational Needs to be completed prior to admissions to New Siblands School. Once this is complete, provided the school is named in the Statement, pupils can be admitted at any time during the school year, providing the school is not full.
Parents, their child and family will have the opportunity to visit the school before their child begins. There will be an opportunity to meet with the headteacher to discuss the child's needs and the school provision. You will have the opportunity to visit classes and meet and discuss issues with the class teacher and any other appropriate professionals who may work with their child.
It is important that parents of children with special educational needs have good contact with the Special Educational Needs department at the Education Offices at Bowling Hill Chipping Sodbury. Early information can lead to effective placement.
Basic information such as telephone numbers and consent forms need to be provided and updated annually so that we can contact you in the case of an emergency.
Children usually begin school on a part time basis. This helps them to get to know new people and adapt to new routines. We are very flexible with this arrangement, ensuring that we work together with parents and carers bearing in mind the needs of the children and their individual situation. It is our aim to be attending school full time by the year of their fifth birthday.
Parents are welcome to accompany their children to school for the first few times. School transport arrangements can be made flexible for the children to ensure that both parent and child are comfortable with the arrangements.
